Discovering mechanical keyboard

A quick backstory.#

I was a never mechanical keyboards guy. I actually made fun of my friends and colleagues who spend 100s of dollars/euros on custom keyboards, keycaps and what not. Having said that the buying a mechanical keyboard is not exactly easy, every youtube video or pod cast that look at loose me in the first 10secs, the moment they start talking about different switches and keycaps and the so on, my choice anxiety kicks in and I bail.

Something changed in 2025. I was in a transition period, I was changing jobs, and a colleague of mine who used to bring is mechanical keyboard to office on a daily basis, decided to gift me his mechanical Keyboard the AIR75 from Nuphy to me. just like that. I did not know what to say, but hey who does not like a gift and it was really sweet that he wanted me to have his keyboard.

I did not use it immediately it was just resting on my desk for nearly two months. I was taking a break between jobs and did not really use it until I started working at my new job. about two weeks into the job, One day I decided to start using the keyboard, it was not love at first use, I still had to find the right work flow and find my comfort zone and setup for the keyboard. but I was sure of one thing. it felt great to type on this thing. for someone who always used a Mac keyboard. (I never bought any of the awful keyboard macs, I have M4 mac with a decent keyboard). This felt like Wow… so I committed to using the Air75 everyday, paired it with a bluetooth mouse and I never touched my mac keyboard again.

Now there is very less you can decide based on articles and videos in the web, you have to personally try these keyboards, check various switches and billion other parameters before you decide which works best for you.

So far the clickedy clacky. blue switches are very pleasing… more details to be added here.

So, I finally decided on the keyboard I want and went and got it., I mean I ordered it online. having so much fun typing in my meaty keyboard that weighs in a whoping 1.5kg (1.670kg to be precise. Yes I weighed it in the kitchen scale).

The keyboard sounds so good I want type more on it. it makes me want to work on tying. improve my speed, accuracy

Build more keyboards, maybe a custom keyboard for typing in tamil.

well it decided, I will doing a தமிழ்-விசைப்பலகை (Tamil Keyboard). I can see it already this project is going to suck in a lot of resources, by resources I mean a lot of money… I am going to design and be creating-custom-keycaps. Oh, by the way, once I have my first-custom-keyboard-build ready. I am going to learn Vim too.
